Peace Officer Question?

I live in Ohio and am a veteran of the USAF. I wanted to become a police officer here and wanted to know the criteria and/or education that I would need to become a cop. Another thing is that I'm the only one working right now (full-time job) and would like to know if it is possible to keep a family of 3 afloat while getting whatever I need to get done for the police requirements done.
